One continues to wonder why Apple has to shut down its store for every little minor product update. This time around, Apple decided it would update the iPod Shuffle line. But, that’s it. There are no new MacBooks or MacBook Pros and no iPhone SDK.

For the first time Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Interactive Media, 19 Entertainment, and Freemantle have teamed up with Apple to bring American Idol fans their favorite performers to iTunes. American Idol fans will now able to download their favorite songs to enjoy on their Mac or PC, iPod classic, iPod nano with video, iPod touch, fifth generation iPod, iPhone, or wide-screen TV with Apple TV.

Sure, the BBC has its very own iPlayer service to worry about but that hasn’t stopped Apple. Nothing can stop Apple. The BBC may be close to announcing a deal with Apple to sell its content in the iTunes store. No word on an official announcement so until that happens consider this a rumor.

Last week, Mac.BLORGE wrote about the Apple gaming system device patent. Recently, Apple submitted another patent for a GPS navigation system. The patent is for a software driven device. The system would allow the Podmap user to request directions from a starting location, and the results would be returned in the form of podcast media file which would include visual maps and step by step driving instructions. If you check out the Podmap patent, you will find this statement that I’ve included below.

The MacBook Air is as light on features as it is physically weighted. If one USB port, one monitor out and headphone jack aren’t enough for you then turn your eyes towards the PC world. Lenovo has created a thin and light laptop that also fits in a manila envelope but isn’t light on features.

Aperture 1.5 has finally been updated to Aperture 2.0. Professional photographers and serious photo hobbyists have been awaiting this upgrade, and Apple has not disappointed. The price of Aperture 2 has been reduced. You now pay $199. If you are already an Aperture user, like myself, you can upgrade for $99. If you are a recent switcher to Aperture you can upgrade to Aperture 2 for $9.95.

If you tried to log into the Apple store a few moments ago you were greeted with their “down for maintenance icon.” Apple is down for the second Tuesday in two weeks. Will we be receiving the much anticipated MacBook Pro today? Many people hope so.
