Fortune: Apple ranks number one in innovation and the most admired company in USA
According to a survey conducted by Fortune, Apple has ranked as the most innovative company for the third year in a row. Innovation is a driving force at Apple spending a significant amount of money in research. Innovation, by Apple, has given us a different perspective on the way we use the computer, phones, music, and movies. Ranking number two in this survey, followed by Medco, P&G, and Herman Miller ranked in at number five.
Not only did Apple rank number one for being the most innovative company, they also ranked the number one company overall being the most admired company.
Over half of their sales has come from the iPod and iPhone. Satisfaction with these products leads some consumers to check out the Mac lineup whose sale growth exceeds the industry.
Over the past five years Apple sales have triple to over $24 billion. Profits made a huge leap jumping from $42 million to $3.5 billion. I’ve been an Apple shareholder long before I actually started using their products at the moment Apple ranks number one among Fortune 500 companies when it comes to total returns for its shareholders for both the past five years (94%) and the past 10 years (51%).
Tim Cook, Apple chief operating officer, recently announced that Apple beat out Dell becoming the number one selling laptop for those in higher education. Apple brought the touch screen to the iPhone which eventually found its way into the iPod touch. We saw it appear in the Mac lineup with the introduction of the MacBook Air, as the multi-touch trackpad, and last week it was introduced into the updated MacBook Pro.
In February Apple became the second largest music retailer in the USA. Wal-Mart currently sits in the top position.
Steve Jobs said, “One of the keys to Apple is that we build products that really turn us on.”
Personally I’m waiting to see what innovative features are included in the MacBook Pro’s next major upgrade.
