iTunes store to finally get Beatles music catalog
They said it was impossible; they said it would never happen but it finally has. Paul McCartney has signed a $400 million contract with iTunes which allows the distribution of the Beatles’ music.
He has officially blessed the iTunes store and will offer the hit selections from albums such as “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” McCartney is not the only one benefiting from the deal; Ringo Star is getting a piece of the “pie” as well. The families of the now deceased Beatles’ will also receive a cut of the profits.
According to UPI, Michael Jackson with Sony and EMI groups retain some publishing rights on the Beatles’ music and will also be getting a share of the money.
The deal could directly affect the ongoing divorce that McCartney is involved in with Heather Mills; she may decide to increase the settlement to include part of the $400 million deal.
Ever since iTunes was available to the general public, there were always rumors as to when/if this would happen. Apple Records and Apple computer even had a spat a while back which is now resolved. Now we know; it took $400 million and a lot of patience but the Beatles’ will soon be making an appearance in the iTunes store.
No release date(s) for the songs/albums have been announced.
