Apple’s iPod is preferred player of US Astronauts

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Apple's iPod is preferred player of US Astronauts If you need a new reason to buy an iPod, how about this; the iPod appears to be preferred by US astronauts.  An image from the latest shuttle image clearly shows an iPod resting just off center in the cockpit.

Many of us have left our iPods resting in our cars or lying on the dash and it looks like that’s what a crew member of the Endeavor as part of STS 123 may have done here.

It amazes me that an iPod is capable of surviving (repeated?) Shuttle flights.  It’s what appears to be either a fourth or fifth generation iPod and given that those have mechanical hard drives that tend to break; I would think it’d be a wiser decision to take a flash-based model on a Shuttle flight.

NASA might want to revise its policy of allowing iPods on Shuttle missions; given that some have a tendency to combust.  Or maybe the powers that be didn’t know the crew member was going to take his iPod on board.

It would be bad for Apple to have in the headlines that an iPod was responsible for an “emergency situation” aboard a Shuttle.  Just work on those quality control issues; someone will sort them out sooner or later.

That’s insane. Please remember iPod’s lost in space are not covered by the Apple warranty ;)

They also used to drink Tang, which tasted like crap.
