Creative to release iPod dock with X-Fi technology

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Creative to release iPod dock with X-Fi technology There are already plenty of iPod docks, home theater adapters and accessories to make one go insane when trying to decide which is right.  Creative will now be releasing an iPod dock with its proprietary X-Fi audio technology and offers a few different features to boot.

Creative has not gotten official with what it refers to as the “X30 iPod Dock.”  Nevertheless, the X30 dock includes line-in, A/V out and speaker connectors as well as S-Video and USB connections for syncing the iPod while it’s docked.  It appears that it may even support 5.1/7.1 surround sound; given it’s X-Fi technology, that would not be surprising.

The one drawback may be is that the dock does not have a direct power adapter; it must receive it’s power from a set of speakers that are compatible with it.

According to the article (translated from French to English), Creative’s T40 and HD50 speakers are compatible with the unit; an adapter to connect it with other speakers/surround sound systems is forthcoming.  The dock itself should arrive in April at a price of €79.90 (~$124.50).

If Creative can fit the X-Fi technology in a tiny dock, I wonder how long it will be before it’s small enough to fit inside an iPod Touch; that would be a match made in heaven.  An iPod Touch with built-in Creative audio processing, am I the only one drooling?
