IBM calls MacBook Air nothing but "hot air"
If you are not yet familiar with IBM’s Lenovo’s PC laptop cousin to the MacBook Air, allow me to fill you in. Lenovo has produced what it calls the “no comprimise” thin and light laptop complete with all the ports and optical drives you will find on larger PC laptops. Lenovo has seen fit to flame Apple with its ThinkPad X300 laptop.
While the ad doesn’t say it directly, it’s clearly aimed at the MacBook Air. Everything that the MacBook Air doesn’t have, the ThinkPad X300 does (except Mac OSX).
The line “Everything else is just hot air,” is no doubt directed at none other than Apple’s MacBook Air.
The X300 features an Intel Core 2 Duo SL7100 processor at 1.2GHz and comes with a choice of Windows XP or Vista.
Other hardware includes a 13.3″ LED-backlit display, Intel GMA X3100, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 64GB SSD (no “standard” hard drive option), an “ultrathin” DVD burner, WiFi connectivity and a LiPolymer battery (choice of 3-cell or 6-cell).
It’s (almost) as thin as the MacBook Air and weighs a scant 2.93lbs with standard options. Well, Apple, how about those “apples?”
If you must spend $3,000 on a thin and light laptop, the choice is clear; the ThinkPad X300 has far more to offer than the MacBook Air. Though, IBM should at least offer a standard mechanical hard drive as that would provide reduced cost “entry level” model; which would put it more on par with the “entry level” MacBook Air at $1,700.

Well, that ad certainly shows a tragic lack of creativity on the part of IBM’s people.
Alas, their plastic look PC doesn’t have quite the panache Apple’s product does.
Guess Air must be selling pretty well, since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery …

XP or Vista. That says it all. It’s pretty sad when people prefer a previous version of their OS because the current one is so flaky. It all boils down to the OS, and Windows can’t touch Mac OS X.

I especially like the LED lamp that shines down from the screen to light up the otherwise unlit keyboard. Darn, I was just planning on finding a use for that bendable USB notebook lamp thing I got as a gift 3 years ago. Oh well.
Lenovo is already discounting it.

So you consider a few extra ports and an optional build-in DVD drive “far more to offer”?! Are you serious?

If you are going to complain about a company, you should at least complain about the correct company. IBM hasn’t produced Thinkpads for several years, and their name no longer appears on any models or adverts. Say it with me “Lenovo” – very good, and sounds nothing like “IBM”.
Oh, and it never ceases to amaze me how insecure Mac users are.

Mac OS X on X300 isn’t a problem. You don’t need to buy a Mac anymore.

I thought my acronym recognition was pretty good, but I ‘ve never heard of a EDWIM.
