How to get a new MacBook Pro for $1,500
The quintessential PC user can’t stand the thought of dropping $2,000+ on a laptop; I know because I was one of them. Apple has refreshed it’s MacBook Pro line and it’s now possible to get excellent deals (for Apple) on its “last generation” models. All of us have our price and apparently for me, it turned out to be $1,500.
MacMall is currently selling some last generation (new in box) MacBook Pro “closeout” models for as little as $1,524 which used to cost as much as $1,700 or more. You won’t get the latest and greatest but that’s okay because you’re saving loads of money.
For just $1,524 or $1,544 (after rebates and depending on display options) you can snag a MacBook Pro with the following features,
- 15.4″ glossy or non-glossy display at 1440 x 900 resolution
- 2GB of DDR2 memory
- 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo processor
- 120GB 5400RPM hard drive
- 8x SuperDrive
- 128MB nvidia Geforce 8600M GT graphics card
- Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard
And all the other amenities that come with owning a MacBook Pro. Suffice it to say, ~$1,500 for a MacBook Pro, even if it’s the “older” model is as close to a bargain you will get in the Mac world. Get one before they’re gone.
There are even additional rebates that offer free shipping, a free photo printer and a free version of Parallels desktop. All those options are mail-in rebates and may be worth it if you don’t mind the initial out of pocket expense.
I can live without some of the new features the MacBook Pros come with, including “multi-touch” which seems gimmicky, at least to me, on a laptop.

I agree with the poster that these are great prices on last gen MacBook Pro, but you can also save money in a variety of ways on the brand new models. The most significant savings can be had by purchasing the computer without any ram upgrade (1gb) and then purchasing ram from third parties and installing it yourself which is very easy to do. I have this and other money saving advise in a post entitled, “What is the best, and cheapest, way to buy an Apple computer” at http://johnkendrick.wordpress.com/index

Don’t overlook the refurbished units. I also waited for the Penryn MBP’s, also wasn’t impressed, and bought a 2.2ghz BMP for $1450 USD. As near as I can tell, the only difference is that the packaging box is different. Same unit, same warranty, all that. For $1450. Game over, man.
