Apple: The stork finally delivers Final Cut Server
By Opal Tribble
The Apple store was down this morning and when it came back online I noticed that Final Cut Server is now shipping. Final Cut Server was announced last year and was supposed to ship this past summer; however, it was delayed.
Final Cut Server is a powerful server based software management tool that can handle media asset management along with workflow automation for professionals within the video industry.
“Whether producing a 30-second spot, the nightly news or a major motion picture, Final Cut Studio is the choice of editors around the world,” said Rob Schoeben, Apple’s vice president of Applications Product Marketing. “With the introduction of Final Cut Server, collaboration just got a whole lot easier for millions of editors, producers and clients who work with Final Cut Studio.”
Final Cut Server is scalable and can support workgroups of various sizes whether you have a two-person team or dealing with a large organization you have the option to automate as much or little of the production pipeline as need. Thanks to menu selections Final Cut gives you the options to monitor media changes, track job status, automate reviews and approval notifications.
“Final Cut Server includes Compressor 3, Apple’s industrial strength digital encoding and compression tool, which delivers pristine format conversions for publishing to DVD, broadcast television, the Internet, Apple TV®, iPod®, iPhone™ and other mobile phones.”
Final Cut Server is tightly linked with Final Cut Studio offering users a seamless extension of workflow. I use Final Cut Studio, and It does an excellent job for all my video editing needs.
Final Cut Server pricing starts at $999 for a 10 client purchase if you need an unlimited-client license you pay $1,999.00 if you find that you need to upgrade from 10 licenses to an unlimited license you can make the upgrade for $999. The 10-client license ships within 24 hours. The unlimited-client license along with the upgrade to unlimited-client license ships within 1-2 business days.
With the release of Final Cut Server I’m wondering if we’ll see an update to Final Cut Studio?
