iTunes and Starbucks, together again

April 15, 2008

The iTunes and Starbucks pairing to present the Song Of The Day last year was one of their most successful promotions ever. They are teaming up again with a similar promotion, called Pick Of the Week. This new promotion will give customers a song or video each week to download and enjoy. Each week will bring a new song or video choice.

It isn’t quite as sweeping in scope as the Song Of the Day, which is sure to disappoint some loyal Apple and Starbucks customers. Using the same disposable card based download system, users can grab their song when they get their coffee. You’d think there would be a way to print a code on the receipt they insist on giving you with every cup of coffee or balance check, as a more “green” way of getting the music to the masses.

The songs and videos are preselected for the customer. They can be downloaded at any time using the one time code on the card. The first song choice is “Washington Square” by the Counting Crows. The promotion is a continuation of the partnership between iTunes and Starbucks, and ties in to the portion of the iTunes store carrying the Starbucks brand, in addition to the roll out of the ITunes WiFi service in select Starbucks stores around the United States.
