Built-in iPod docks for MacBook Pros?

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Built-in iPod docks for MacBook Pros?Macs with built-in iPod docks should not be such a far fetched idea for Apple.  The implementation may take a bit for work because of the design of its computers but it can be done.  Here’s a possible idea for the MacBook Pro, make the trackpad area replaceable with the iPod Touch as your trackpad, okay so it needs some work.

The current MacBook Pro has a multitouch trackpad and there are mockups of the new MacBook Pro that have mini-displays as the trackpad area.  Will the Photoshopping ever end?  But, it did give me an idea; owners of an iPod Touch could use this as an area to dock their iPod and use it as a mini-display/trackpad.

Of course, owners of the other iPods, you know, the useless ones would be left out in the cold but it’s a start and you’ve got to start somewhere.  Now, it would have to be a modular trackpad area.  Meaning, that you have the standard trackpad that the laptop ships with, which can be swapped out for the iPod Touch and it could even be used to play songs from your iPod Touch through the speakers or headphone jack on your MacBook Pro.

All the other Macs could get iPod docks as well. IMacs could get docks for all iPods but I’m not sure the MacBooks should get them because of the line’s “non-pro” nature.  The iPhone is probably “too bulky” to be implemented in such a manner but I could be wrong about that.

Sound off in the comments if you think this is a good (or bad) idea for the next MacBook Pro revisions.

This is a bad idea. Why screw up a perfectly good design with something that isn’t necessary and probably won’t be used very often.
