Apple releases Bootcamp 2.1; Windows XP, Vista 32-bit, and Vista 64-bit are updated
By Opal Tribble
Good news for those who use Bootcamp, Apple recently released Bootcamp 2.1. The Bootcamp 2.1 update is for Windows XP, Vista 32 bit, and Vista 64 bit. This update addresses issues and improves compatibility.
According to the Apple support site you need to install Bootcamp 2.1 before before Windows Service Pack 3 (SP3). The Windows XP download is 215MB, Vista 32-bit is 228MB, and Vista 64-bit is 236MB.
Bootcamp, for those who don’t know, is a powerful utility that enables Intel based Macs to run Windows on a Mac computer. Although I don’t use Bootcamp on my 17″ MacBook Pro or Powermac G5, I have installed it on other Mac users computers.
The installation process is very simple. When you install Bootcamp on your Mac you are presented with a step by step graphical assistant application that will enable you to dynamically create a second partition on the hard drive for Windows. You don’t have to worry about hunting for Windows drivers since you are able to burn a CD that includes all the necessary drivers needed. Once the installation has been completed, the Mac user can choose to run Mac OSX or Windows once they restart their computer. Bootcamp is free.
Having the ability to use both operating systems has made the switch to Mac even more appealing for some consumers since it enables them to use both operating systems. Phillip Schiller, Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing said,
“We think Boot Camp makes the Mac even more appealing to Windows users considering making the switch.”
Bootcamp was released in beta on April 6, 2006 since that time it’s been a popular choice for those who require both operating systems.

which is more effective, parallel desk top or boot camp?

OD,
The majority of my friends and acquaintances that have used both they prefer Parallels desktop. I think one of the selling points for them was they did not have to reboot to switch to another operating system. Of course, they both have their pros and cons.
Bootcamp
1. offers you full native support of the hardware so it is a lot faster.
2. Gives you a full Windows environment this is perfect for those who really can’t ditch Windows.
Parallels Desktop
1. You don’t have to reboot to switch between operating systems.
2. Less hard drive space thanks to the expanding virtual hard drive option.

I have a problem updating Bootcamp. 2.1 for vista ultimate.
I get an error that a restart is pending, I tried to install the update also manually (without antivirus and UAC disable) but also it did not work.
Do you have something to propose?
Thanks.
