Apple: You can now purchase movies directly from your Apple TV

May 4, 2008

apple.jpegApple TV users rejoice Apple quietly released an update which now gives Apple TV users the option to purchase movies directly from their set top box.

In a previous update Apple gave Apple TV users the option to rent and download movies directly from their set top box. Many Apple TV users, like myself, wondered why this wasn’t releases the same time as movie rental feature was announced. Although the old way wasn’t a big hassle since I simply had to transfer the movie from my 17″ MacBook Pro to my Apple TV, I do like the convenience of being able to purchase movies from my set top box. Purchasing a movie directly from my Apple TV went smoothly. I was able to purchase I Am Legend using my Apple TV without any issues.

What other updates have been made? Thus, far the only one I see is on the Top Movies page you will now see that a new category named Top Sellers has been added.

Apple TV was announced at a special press release event on September 12, 2006. Apple TV is a digital media received that gives the user the opportunity to play digital content from iTunes, YouTube, or another computer. You can play the content on an enhanced definition or wide-screen definition television.

Apple TV checks for new software weekly; however, if you would like to take care of this manually you can do so by going to the Settings menu and selecting software update.

And you read an article about it on Mac.Blorge by a 2 digit PC gamer who can’t spell.

I do think the downloadable versions should be slightly cheaper given the fact that selling the product over a download link is cheaper.

There is something about buying a hard copy of media from a store – online or in a bricks and mortar store. Kind of feels like you are getting more for your money.

I’m sure it wont be long before internet access is in every home that has TV.

    Buck,
Thanks for the catch I usually catch typos before I click on publish but occasionally some do slip by.
Oh by the way I’m mainly a Xbox 360 gamer. When I play on a PC, it’s on my 17″ MacBook Pro. ;-)

    Mark,
I agree with you; I have always felt that digital downloads should be slightly cheaper since you don’t get the extras that come along with the hard copy. I have noticed that some companies charge less for digital downloads but for the most part, from what I’ve seen, the prices are the same.
