apple.jpegConsumer Report polled 10,000 of its readers, in its latest issue, to learn about the experiences they faced when getting their personal computing issues resolved through tech support. Apple won hands down over other computer manufacturers.

According to the Consumer Report survey conducted Apple offered stellar tech support. Readers gave Apple a score of 83 for notebook computer support. Apple received an 81 for their desktop technical support ranking them number one for notebook and desktop technical support. How did Apple compare industry wide? According to the survey industry, wide tech support was able to solve their customer’s problems 60% of the time.

Where is the best place for Apple users to receive tech support? In the store. Consumer Report stated that customers who took their products into an Apple store were able to have their issues resolved 90% of the time. Don’t expect to just walk into the Apple store and be waited on immediately you should make an appointment in advance to insure that you will be waited on in a timely manner. You have the option to make your appointment by visiting your local Apple website or by contacting Apple support by phone.

The survey wasn’t all rosy for Apple. Mac notebook computers were dead last for the number of defects that surfaced in the notebook computers between 2003 and 2007. Apple had much better results with their Mac desktop computers they led the pack with fewer defects reported between 2003 and 2007.

Although my Apple products have rarely given me problems, I have called Apple tech support and walked into a my local Apple store. My issue was resolved the first time. I also purchased AppleCare because I wanted to extend the warranty of my Apple products. I’ve used it twice for my MacBook Pro and once for my iPod.

I have found great support for my Apple questions simply by logging onto the Apple support website and searching for the answers to my questions. I’ve also had excellent results visiting the Apple discussion forums. I found the Apple forum users for the most part to be extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and willing to help with the questions I needed answers.
