By Opal Tribble

apple.jpegGood news for iPhone users, if you’ve been craving a larger selection of mobile ringtones for your extremely popular phone it looks as if they’ll be coming to the iPhone soon.

Over the past few weeks Apple has been in negotiations with several music label companies. Apple is looking to expand the selection of ringtones and other musical selections for the iPhone. According to the New York Times, “The negotiations are very active right now and a final deal has not been set.”

“Also under discussion is whether Apple can sell songs from its iTunes store directly to iPhones over the cell-phone broadband network.”

Many are anxiously waiting for the release of the next generation iPhone that uses the faster 3G technology so this is technically feasible. Industry insiders speculate that we should see an announcement after Steve Jobs speaks at the company’s developers conference. Rumors have circulated that the next generation iPhone offering 3G technology will be announced at this event.

Apple iTunes offers ringtones as a 99 cent upgrade; however, not all songs can be converted to ringtones. How soon will we see a larger selection of mobile ringtones for the iPhone? According, to label executives Apple is expecting to introduce the enhanced mobile collection through iTunes in June.
