Sony Pictures added to the UK iTunes store; iTunes moving from a one price fits all model

By Opal Tribble

itunes-logo.JPGIf you are an iTunes user living in the UK there is some good news, Apple and Sony have reached and agreement so you will now see TV shows from the broadcaster featured at the UK iTunes Music Store.

MacWorld UK reported on this story. They noticed that a number of shows have been added to the Sony Pictures Channel. The following shows, Damages, The Larry Sanders Show, and News Radio. Two animation series Jackie Chan Adventures, and Spiderman has also been added.

What’s interesting is the pricing was different of the shows being offered. Apple is gradually moving from their one price fits all model. I first noticed this when Sopranos was added to the iTunes music store while others were $1.99 per episode The Sopranos was offered for $2.99.

In this instance, The Larry Sanders Show will cost £1.49 per episode. Damages is even higher costing £1.89 per show. Jackie Chan Adventures, NewsRadio, and Spiderman will cost £1.19 each.

The UK iTunes Store also has a section for Fox Television Classic content at the moment nothing has been added, but it’s only matter of time before they start adding shows. Hopefully they’ll add popular shows like Futurerama (one of my favorites), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Land of the Giants, NYPD Blue, and St. Elsewhere to the lineup.

When the Apple iTunes music store opened on January 9, 2001 originally TV shows and movies were only available to US customers. The only video content available to those living outside the US was music videos and Pixar’s short films. Many of the US shows available here in the US do not appear on the UK iTunes store until 6 months or a year later. Of course, there are times when the shows never make it to the UK iTunes store.  It’s great to see that Apple iTunes is continuing to expand its selection to those living outside of the US.
