Go Postal on the big screen, just like the cult classic Mac game

By Leslie Poston

If you have had a Mac for as long as I have, and if you also have an irreverent sense of humor, you have at least tried playing the popular cult Mac game Postal. This game stretches even the most macabre sense of humor to its limits, so I was surprised to hear a movie was being made based on it and released here (if you can call 15 theaters a release).

What makes Postal so strange and unsettling to some? It is incredibly violent, based on a man who “goes postal” after having a terrible day. He goes on rampages, shooting sprees, commits heinous crimes and often goes to absurd lengths while doing so (up to and including using live pets as gun silencers and war figures and terrorits as characters, among other things).

I am not sure the heightened level of absurdity and outrageous violence and insanity will translate well to the theaters of America. The game already operates under constant heat from critics, and I can’t imagine the movie will be any better. German director Uwe Boll thinks it will do well, in spite of a small 15 screen release.
