Quark announces QuarkXPress 8; includes built-in Flash authoring
A new version of Quark will be released within the next 60 days. Quark users should expect to see additional enhancements including built-in Flash authoring. To make the application more intuitive The Quark team has incorporated smart behavior in its tools. This gives the user the ability to access the tool they need without have to constantly switch back and forth between all of them.
In order to enhance the users experience members of the QuarkXPress product team sat down with the designers to figure out their work structure to determine what changes were needed in QuarkXPress 8.
“We really sat down to change QuarkXPress and change the number of mouse clicks it takes to get things done,†Tim Banister, General Manager of Desktop Technology for Quark, told Macworld. “Really, we went back to the fundamentals.â€

- Native Illustrator file import
- WYSIWYG font rendering
- Advanced guide management
- Item Styles to control formatting for multiple items
- Support for importing PDF version 1.7 and earlier
- Ghent Workgroup (GWG)-based output styles and GWG-based job jackets support
QuarkXPress, usually referred to as Quark was originally released in 1987. It is a computer application that is used to create and edit complex page layouts in WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) format. Quark is primarily used by large publishing houses to produce the type of complex layouts that is required by catalogs, magazines, newspapers, and similar printed materials. Quark is available for the Mac OS X and Windows.
Currently Quark has a promotion at its website if you purchase Quark7 you will receive QuarkXPRess 8 once it is available.

Too little, too late. There’s a cheaper, better program out there called InDesign. All of the $$ and aggravation to use Quark is just an exercise in futility.
