Apple to drop support for PowerPC with Mac OSX 10.6
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Who still has a PowerPC Mac? Not me and probably not you. So, then it just makes sense for Apple to drop support for PowerPC Macs completely in the next version of Mac OSX. It’s time to get rid of that PowerPC Mac, if you still have one.
No, I don’t care if it still works, get rid of it. Apple has decided that it is time to move on to the better, superior ways of Intel completely so the next version of Mac OSX will not have any support for PowerPC Macs, at all.
According to AppleInsider, an early version of Mac OSX 10.6 is expected to be shown off at WWDC with the actual launch next year at MacWorld. Apple is expected to make the push for a 64-bit Intel-only version of Mac OSX 10.6 pushing developers to get onboard with the x86/64-only code.
Well, finally, no more support for PowerPC Macs. It’s about time. Old technology is useless. Kudos for Apple for finally leaving the past in the past.
I won’t shed a tear if you decide to hang on to your aging and useless PowerPC Mac, you’ll be stuck with Leopard and the rest of us can feel free to move on to Mac OSX 10.6 but why upgrade? Just buy a new Mac when it is released. (Okay, that’s going a bit far, even for me).

I am one of those persons who still have a PowerPC Mac (and 2 Intel Macs). Even if this rumor is true, I certainly won’t be giving the PPC Mac up. It still works fine and runs Leopard acceptably.
Just because YOU have to have the latest software and hardware does not mean that others have to follow suit. There are lots of people who do not have a big wallet and a PPC Mac running Leopard will still serve them well.

Right on! My Power PC is only three years old. I have the 2.7 Dual Processor and it is pimped out with 6.5 gigs of Ram and extra hard drives. I have used the newer intel machines, and they only seem marginally faster than my machine (although, admittedly much quieter). I hope Apple does not make all those who bought their professional desktop machines only three years ago (and sooner) regret the decision. Apple seems to stand behind their great products, so let’s hope the power-intensive PowerPC’s have one more OS upgrade to retire them on.

This guy is a total fuckface! Fuck you, dude.. PowerPC works for me.. And I just got this DUAL 1.25 MDD G4.. I don’t use Apple’s apps(FCP, Photoshop, etc..), I only use my mac for everyday stuff. Its running Leopard and it is blisterly fast under Leopard. I just got a new 7800 GEFORCE GS video card and core image works great! So, you and the intel macs can go to hell where they belong. CURSE YOU! Nazi!

Look dude.. you just keep shelling out top dollar for that “new” technology, and i’ll keep buying it from you for a fraction of what you wasted on it.
And guess what, I almost guarantee we do basically the same things with our systems, you just fall for the marketing hype and waste too much of your money in the process.
