net4mac: Social networking client for Mac users receives an update
If you conduct, a search on Google for “social networking” you’ll find thousands of pages linking you to social networking services or information about this extremely popular service. The internet is crawling with social networking websites. In April 2008 a new social network entered the scene and get this not everyone can join.
net4mac differs from social networking websites like Facebook or Myspace because you have to be a Mac user in order to take advantage of its services. net4mac requires you to download an application that is designed for Mac OS X 10. 4 (Tiger) and Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard.) During signup you select what type of Mac computer you use, you also can check if you have an iPod or iPhone, along with your level of expertise. I chose power user.
net4mac is an application approach to social networking. This means you can have badge notifications right in your dock to alerting you of new messages, you also have the option to integrate with your address book so you can send invites to your Mac buddies.
Greg Barrot manager of dev4mac development team said,
“Facebook and MySpace are great but nothing special for true Mac fans,”
“With our concept, people can share information on the subject they like and create groups, for example, about the software they are using.”“The application is better than a website because we can make a better integration with the technologies of Mac OS X, like Address Book, iCal, iChat, etc.,” says Barrot
dev4mac has no plans to make this a web based application so if you find yourself away from your beloved Mac and only have access to a Windows PC you won’t be able to take advantage of this service.
“Actual members love the application,” Barrot says. “We don’t believe in web applications; we believe in applications connected to web services.”

Recently I downloaded net4mac on my 17″ MacBook Pro I wanted to check it out for myself. The download is 5MB. The setup was simple, I chose my user name, selected the type of system I mainly use, MacBook Pro of course. You can also let people know if you have an iPod or iPhone touch.
Once you choose the type of user you are (I chose power user) you are ready to mingle. Checking out the groups you will find there are numerous communities you can join on net4mac. MacBook Pro is extremely popular boasting over 700 members. If you are a blogger and would like to connect with other Mac bloggers you’ll find groups available for you also.

net4mac has also partnered with several companies so you will be able to save money on a variety of software applications for your Mac.
If you’re looking to connect with other Mac lovers log onto net4mac, download, and start networking.
