iCall is offering free calls over WiFi

By Opal Tribble

iCall-logo.jpgHow would you like to make free calls with your iPhone? No you don’t have to have a jailbroken iPhone to accomplish this. There is a perfectly legal way to make free WiFi phone calls over WiFi.

iCall has received a lot of recognition for offering free VOIP calling for Windows users which naturally makes some iPhone users envious. Where’s the iPhone love? iCall is currently developing the first iPhone application that is offering free phone calls over WiFi. Since it’s still in development you won’t be able to use this application yet. Currently the application is only being distributed to iCall’s development phones.

What can we expect to see with the iCall application? The iCall application enables you to transfer regular cell phone calls to WiFi instantly which mean you can save those expensive minutes for other calls. You are also able to make and receive calls over WiFi, access your address book, and customize your voicemail options. All calls to USA or Canada are free, including calls that you received, and calls made between iCall users.

No, iCall isn’t breaking any rules by developing this Application. Apple has said that VOIP is allowed, but it cannot be used over EDGE networks. iCall is part of the Apple iPhone developers team so it’s safe to assume they are following the guidelines that Apple has laid out.

Thanks to the poor service in the areas I visit in South Carolina I don’t have an iPhone. I’ll purchase one when the iPhone is available to other mobile carriers; however, if I did I would definitely snatch up iCall as soon as it was released.

WWDC starts tomorrow which of course means the iPhone APP store will be kicking off, great news for those who’ve been waiting on its official launch be prepared to see even more fabulous iPhone applications for this incredibly popular phone.
