Apple unveils QuickTime 7.5; Free download for Mac and Window PC users

June 10, 2008

quicktime.jpgWhen I checked my Software Updates on my 17″ MacBook Pro earlier today I noticed that QuickTime had received an update. When I logged onto the support page, I saw that Apple has improved Quicktime’s compatibility within this update. The update also addresses security issues.

If you’re looking for an extensive explanation you won’t find it. Apple usually doesn’t go into details when releasing updates. I’ve always found that annoying. Upon further investigation, I did find this information about the fix.

For the protection of our customers, Apple does not disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until a full investigation has occurred and any necessary patches or releases are available. To learn more about Apple Product Security, see the Apple Product Security website.

It makes me wonder when they’ll discuss the updates? Downloading the QuickTime update is quick and painless and it’s available for Panther, Tiger, Leopard, and Windows users. The Panther download is 51.39MB. The Tiger download is 52.8MB, The Leopard download is 56MB, and the Windows download is 22.67MB. I downloaded the update and watched the WWDC 08. Although I had listened to the audio stream yesterday I wanted to see Steve Jobs showing off the iPhone 3G.

Quicktime is multimedia application. When I watch movies on my MacBook Pro I normally watch it with the Quicktime application. Quicktime gives the user the opportunity to use numerous formats like digital video, media clips, sound, text, animation, music, and several types of interactive panoramic images. QuickTime is available in two version the free version and also the QuickTime Pro version which retails for $29.99. I usually watch the movies I purchase from iTunes on QuickTime video.

Apple unveiled QuickTime on December 2, 1992 to be used as a multimedia add-on for System 6 and later. It was showcased at the 1991 WorldWide Developers Conference in 1991 by Bruce Leak. Do you remember that Apple’s famous commercial from 1984? He played it on a Mac. You can manually check for software updates by clicking on the Apple menu and clicking on Software Update.

MAC is so good at promoting, and every one just falls on there tail.
But Apple/MAC needs to do better.
Yes the phone is great looking, but what’s new, faster internet ?, is the camera much better ? why is there no video call’s ? Actually the new things is still OLD. Can I change my battery ?, No the iPhone is the same old phone, wit a faster internet, still stone-age technology, in this business
No Apple, has done this again. People like my self got the first one, and was happy with the internet and mail, but in a business you need copy / Paste, but this are you still not getting. Apple’s discussion forum, is no good, all you will hear is ” the iPhone does not do this or that” so get the new iPhone 3G and get ready to get disappointed

    MR. J,
I’m not getting the new iPhone I love it, but they are still with AT&T. I travel to South Carolina a few times yearly the areas I visit have very poor AT&T coverage. I need phone service for my business.

The non replaceable battery hasn’t bothered me. I have two iPods and one just conked out. I’ve had it for almost two years. I have a feeling the batter needs to be replaced. Even though it means a trip to the local Apple Store it does not bother me too much even though I dislike that location.

As great as the iPhone is I don’t think it’s there yet still need more features. Video I would like to see that in the next iPhone along with an unlocked iPhone. Let me choose the carrier that is best for me don’t force me into one mobile carrier.
