System maintenance is a breeze with OnyX 1.9.6b2; Free Mac application
By Opal Tribble
Are you a Mac user looking for a software application that will allow you to run system maintenance tasks? Perhaps you would like to configure hidden parameters that you are accessible in Dashboard, Disk Utility, Dock, Finder, or Exposé, Disk Utility, and many more.
Titanium has released an update to OnyX. If you are a Leopard user you can download OnyX 1.9.6b2. Just one word of caution — this is a beta version.
I’ve listed the fixes you’ll see in OnyX 1.9.6b2 below:
- Deleting logs option improved
- Rebuilding the display of folders content corrected
- New tab Parameters > Spotlight
- Show/hide Bonjour browser in Screen Sharing
- Show/hide full toolbar in Screen Sharing
- Desktop saved before modifying and relaunching the Finder
- Set Help Viewer window to floating or non-floating mode
- Choose the application to execute at launch of X11
- Automation panel modified
- Misc corrections in the translations
- Help updated
- Deleting the application from Uninstaller improved
If you are a Leopard user that doesn’t want to download the beta version, you always have the option to download OnyX 1.9.5. Onyx also offers downloads for Tiger, Panther, and Jaguar.

Sometimes I manually delete information from my history and temporary folders. OnyX lets me take care of this in one application. I also have the ability to check CrashReporter reports and check out different logs. Recently, I downloaded OnyX 1.8.5 (Tiger download) on my 17″ MacBook Pro; as you can see from the screenshot above, I have the ability to perform multiple tasks from one application.
When you download OnyX, you’ll also receive Uninstall-Onyx. It is an independent application that accompanies OnyX. It will allow you to separately remove the components created while installing and using OnyX such as preferences, history. etc.,
Onyx is a free application. If you’ve been looking for a system maintenance application log onto Titanium and pick the correct flavor of OnyX for your Mac. Download and enjoy!
