Kid Rock boycotts iTunes; Urges fans to download illegally
Not all music artists want their music to appear on iTunes. You can add Kid Rock to that list, at least for now. Recently, Kid Rock stated that he would not be having his music featured on iTunes (the number one music retailer in the U.S.) Kid Rock stated that he is taking a stance against Apple executives.
According to Kid Rock, “iTunes takes the money, the record company takes the money, and they don’t give it to the artists,” Kid Rock does have a point artist that signs with label companies don’t make a lot of money from each song they sell. The majority of the money is made in tours.
What caused this outburst? Apparently, Kid Rock was annoyed with his record label Warner Music Group’s Atlantic Records. They wanted him to publicly denounce file sharing. His response: ‘Wait a second, you’ve been stealing from the artists for years. Now you want me to stand up for you? Kid Rock went on to say that he encouraged people to steal his music not only does he advocate illegally downloading his music he also thinks they should steal everything.
“I don’t agree with it. I think we should level the playing field. I don’t mind people stealing my music, that’s fine. But I think they should steal everything. You know how much money the oil companies have? If you need some gas, just go fill your tank off and drive off, they’re not going to miss it.”
Following his logic we can use counterfeit money to pay for his concerts along with anything they buy while at the concert, right? Not to bright if you ask me. Kid Rock estimates that he is losing between 10% – 20% from iTunes sales he also went on to say that eventually, he will sign with iTunes because he cannot avoid them.
I remember when Kid Rock came on the scene he bears a striking resemblance to a schoolmate of mine who happen to share his last name. Kid Rock’s real name is Robert James Ritchie. I bought his debut album Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast when it was released in 1990 but haven’t followed him musically since that time. Oh by the way you can still purchase that on iTunes. Kid Rock doesn’t own the rights to that album. Kid Rock married Pamela Anderson in 2006 and they divorced six months later. In 2007 his album Rock & Roll Jesus soared to number one on the Billboard 100. Kid Rock is currently working on a new album, Running with the Kid, with Rev Run, formerly of Run DMC.

How interesting, since his recent single is “borrowed” from Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London.

Ralph,
Now that is fascinating. I’ll have to listen to the single. I guess in his mind that’s ok since he was just “borrowing”. I haven’t listened to Kid Rock’s music in years.

i think it is hillarious that you write “not to bright, if you ask me,” using the correct “to” which should be “too.” idiot.
