Apple iSight may get upgrade to HD
Apple rumors are everywhere, all the time. Most of the time I simply ignore them as so much noise. On occasion, one will catch my attention and get me excited, however. The rumor that Apple may make iSight HD is definitely one of those.
How did it get started? From a line of code in the latest QuickTime. The code section is called a localization string, and it clearly references iSight Hd as a new incoming device. The localization string reads:
/* Next Generation USB iSight */
“iSight HD” = “iSight HD”;
I am on one hand excited about iSight having HD capabilities, but on the other… not so much. My colleagues don’t necessarily need to see the High Definition version of me in my bathrobe at 3AM during a quick video chat, now do they?
Could the localization string be referencing the now defunct stand alone iSights from the old Lifesaver colored iMac days? Perhaps. In true Apple Fangrrl fashion; however, I choose to hope this is a plan to bring the built in iSights to current standards.
There is much than can be improved in the built in iSight family, after all. would an HD version of the built in iSight address the issues of focus and clarity that the current version faces? Would I be able to have a bit more freedom to adjust the camera angle as needed, in however small increments? Maybe the HD version would even address the color consistancy issues that people face. Who knows.
