Apple signs iPhone 3G distribution deals in Germany & Italy; Similar deal expected in the Netherlands

By Opal Tribble

apple.jpegApple retail stores have been sprouting up all over the globe. Opening day is a special event and attracts thousands of avid Apple users to the store. Such was the case when the first retail store opened in Sydney, Australia on June 19, 2008. The place was packed.

However, there are still countries that don’t have Apple retail stores. Users wanting to purchase the iPhone 3G will be able to purchase it through resellers. To insure that the iPhone 3G reaches the masses Apple has signed iPhone several distribution deals in Germany and Italy.

In Germany, Apple reached a deal with Gravis; a computer reseller company. Gravis will be able to sell the iPhone 3G with T-Mobile contracts throughout its chain of stores. Germany is one of the countries that doesn’t have any Apple retail stores, at least not yet, Apple plans to open a retail store late this year in Munich.

Italy already has one Apple retail store at the Mondadori Multicenter in central Milan. The Apple distribution people who eagerly awaiting for the iPhone 3G will be able to purchase it from local Apple Premium Resellers. Unlike the U.S Italy will have two mobile carriers to choose from Vodafone and Telecom are Apple’s local carriers. Now why couldn’t they have a similar deal here in the U.S. not everyone wants to be locked into one mobile carrier. AT&T offers poor service to the areas I travel.

Apple is expected to reach a similar deal with the Netherlands. Resellers alleged to be selling the iPhone 3G in the Netherlands are A-Mac, Ivizi and MacMe.
