German publisher goes all Mac, dumps 12,000 Windows PCs

By Leslie Poston

News of one of Apple’s biggest sales ever comes out of Germany, of all places. A German publisher took the plunge and did what many of use Apple fans wish other companies would do - go all out for Apple products.

The publisher took the extravagant step of getting rid of their Windows PC fleet (All 12,000 or so of them) in favor of an all Mac set up. The fact that Axel Springer AG is a publishing house fits with Macs long held reputation as a solid platform for creative types.

Sure, Macs can do more than just create now, but what better company type to have Macs than a publisher? Macs are ideally suited for writing, graphic design, movie making, photography and other creative pursuits.

Interestingly, the company plans to utilize Macs from every aspect of Apple’s product offering, from Mac Minis on up to the hot rod Mac Pro with high end displays. The company chief, Dr. Mathias Döpfner, has stated that he wants the company to be a more modern office. Going all Mac is certainly the fastest way to accomplish that goal.

Apple lovers who have been pushing their own companies to embrace the iPhone will also love that Axel Springer AG will incorporate the iPhone as well wherever possible. It’s a refreshing change from companies who shun the progressive smart phone in favor of Windows Mobile units.

Axel Springer AG says it will be allowing all personal Macs and iPhones to integrate with the company network as of July. The planned time frame for the massive switch over will take anywhere from one to two years over all. when asked about more concrete reasons for the switch, Döpfner stated cost over time and the easy to use, simple design of the Mac as two of the main reasons out of many.

Wonder how they do the been counting. Probably some unhappy SAP reps.

Makes a change from the one-eyed Windows song from business IT. Interesting how it’s the CEO (not CIO) that’s quoted as calling this one. Maybe reverting back to looking at the top-line will bring Apple into the enterprise?

I thought SAP had a decent web-client? Though there are probably some unhappy IT staff out of a job too!
