With all the attention focused on Apple’s launch of the much anticipated iPhone 3G, the official release of the App store, and MobileMe some might have overlooked that there was another update available. iPhone touch users have the chance to take advantage of many of the features also.

Apple recently released iPod touch software update 2.0. It isn’t a free update It will cost $9.95, and when you read about all the features that are included you’ll understand why. Of course, the much hyped App store is included but iPod touch users will receive more. Users will find many of the features that are available in the iPhone 2.0 software update.
For example, MobileMe, the service that was announced at WWDC ‘08 is also included in this update. It gives iPod touch users the ability to keep all their information in one place. That’s right emails, contacts, and the all important calender where you keep track of your busy life is stored in a cloud and is pushed down to the devices you own like your iPhone, Mac, and PC.
MobileMe also works with many applications such as Mail, Address Book, and iCal on the Mac. Are you using a Windows PC? No problem, you can use it with Microsoft Outlook with the Windows XP or Vista. When you make changes to one device, the “cloud” automatically updates all the others. Say goodbye to remembering docking your device and remembering to sync manually this is done for you automatically.
Also included in the iPod touch 2.0 software update you’ll receive Google Maps, Mail, Weather, Web Clips along with a customizable home screen.
I imagine this update will make the iPod touch appealing to many users it includes many of the features I’ve missed from my old PDA. I didn’t see it as a practical device before since I already have the second generation iPod which I use exclusively for my workouts. Touching the screen to change my music selection? No thanks, it definitely wasn’t as easy as my older iPod.
The selling point for myself is the MobileMe features having the ability to access that information when I’m away from my MacBook Pro is very appealing and I’ll definitely be purchasing the iPod touch in the near future.
If you are an iPod touch user that have been waiting for Apple to release this update, log onto Apple and download the iPod touch 2.0 software update. Enjoy!
