Win an unlocked iPhone from Hictu

By Leslie Poston

Hictu is giving away a free, unlocked iPhone 3G. What is Hictu? A free micro video blogging service. Think YouTube meets Twitter, in a similar vein to 12Seconds or Seesmic. You record a simple, short video and other people see your video and comment on it.

Keep in mind this is unlocked only. You will have to jailbreak it yourself. Lucky for you, Bwana.Tv has a great video on both unlocking and jail breaking your iPhone at this link. The video that shows the jail breaking is pretty straightforward but it deals with the iPhone 2.0 - no word on whether it works with a 3G yet or not.

So how do you get this fabulous, unlocked iPhone from Hictu? It’s simple: You subscribe to Hictu, then jump through a few simple hoops. Hictu is still in private beta, so you’ll need to go to this post to ask for an invite code. You can ask for an invite code in the comments of the post, or you can email the post author - either way is fine.

So what are the hoops you must jump through? Just record a video on Hictu with vacation greetings to your loved ones or friends. Do this by 12:00 AM on August 20, 2008. Send your friends a link to the video and get them to leave comments. You can even post a link to your micro video blog video on the micro blogging service Twitter to increase your chances of winning, although doing this repeatedly will only make people on Twitter mad and possibly have the opposite effect.

What’s the catch? The comments your friends and family leave must be video comments, for one thing. The video with the most unique video comments is the winner. This is a pretty simple and fun contest, as these things go. If you enter, tell us in the comments so we can support your video.
