Apple’s iTunes U offers free lectures, tutorials, and more
Besides offering songs, movies, podcasts, and many other features available on iTunes. Apple also has a section focused on education. Logging onto the Apple iTunes store you’ll find iTunes U located under Genre.
iTunes boasts a large assortment of lectures from several universities across the United States including Stanford, Duke, MIT, Arizona State, and many more. “The content can be downloaded to an iPod and listened to on the go,” says Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes, “making learning from a lecture just as simple as enjoying music.” Apple launched iTunes in 2001. iTunes is now the number one music retailer in the U.S.

With numerous categories, to choose from there is bound to be something to peak your interest. Business, Engineering, Fine Arts, Health & Medicine, Mathematics, and Science are just a few. Clicking on a category link will bring you to a new page which features a large variety of subjects under your selected category. I clicked on Health & Medicine and was quickly transported back to my college days when I saw Anatomy & Physiology. On this subject, there are over 150 lectures that you can listen to and they all are free.
You’ll also find a large variety of tutorials available on iTunes U for example if your new to Photoshop and would like to learn more about if. You could download the Photoshop tutorial.
Apple is definitely taking note that more people are looking for ways to enhance their knowledge without stepping into a classroom. I’m one of those people. I’m currently pursuing a Masters degree and I’ve enrolled in distance learning to accomplish this. Will Apple transform online education as it did the music industry?
