If you live anywhere in the continental United States (and probably other places too, but I have to write about what I know, right?) then you have been completely unable to escape news of the iPhone 3G for the last few weeks or months. Last year the same level of hype followed the iPhone’s initial release.

I recently found myself on the schedule to present at PodCamp 3 Boston, and found myself in a bit of a quandary. What should I choose for presentation software? What would be compatible with most AV setups for Mac or PC and what would be fastest and easiest to use?

Analysts and investors were all abuzz after Apple’s Q3 earnings call. During the call Apple guided its companies gross margin down to 31.5 percent for the quarter ending September. Say what? As if that wasn’t enough to catch investors and analysts off guard they dropped the companies gross margin to 30 percent for the entire 2009 fiscal year.

In Apple’s fiscal third quarter 2008 conference call the company pulled a fast one on its rabid fans. Amidst all the talk of profit margins and stock valuations the company tossed an easter egg.

Macs are chock full of hidden treasures that will make your computer life a lot easier. A few weeks ago I received an email from a recent Mac switcher. They wanted to know how to add special mathematics symbols to their document. With my business, I often use these special characters I have customers that live in Brazil (many of their names have special symbols included in their names) when I switched over to the Mac OS I had to find how to access this feature fairly quickly.

If you are an Apple user who signed up for MobileMe on purpose or who just got transitioned over from your existing .Mac account, chances are you received the vague apology-like email from Apple this week. Why apology-like? Because on careful reading it really wasn’t a true apology.

One Apple user found a nice work around for the pesky and expensive SMS fees for people using AT&T and the iPhone. It seems that the exorbitant expense of the data plan motivated him o try a few new options.

We knew it would eventually happen, Apple was going to eventually take action against Psystar. The question was when. On July 3, 2008 Apple filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California. The suit alleges counts for violation of its shrink wrap license, trademark, and copyright infringement. Also in the complaint Apple alleges that Psystar has offered Leopard updates at its website “that are either direct copies of Apple-generated updates and/or unauthorized modified versions of software updates from Apple.”
