Will the MacBook Air receive an update? Sources claim yes; Expect Penryn processors and a higher capacity battery

At times it seems that the MacBook Air has been around a lot longer than it has. It was only this past January that Steve Jobs, CEO for Apple, Inc, unveiled the MacBook Air at the MacWorld Expo 2008. Since that time it’s receive a lot of attention. Retailers had a hard time keeping the MacBook Air in stock and it received it’s fair amount of praise and criticism.
On one side, you had many supporters who praised Apple for making a secondary computer that would assist them when they were on the go. Others criticized Apple for dumping a lot of extras from the MacBook Airthat they believed were a necessity. I had a chance to try out the MacBook Air a few months ago and I really liked it. Although I have no need for one at the moment if I still travelled a lot with work it would have made the perfect secondary computer for traveling on the road.
Phone News is reporting that Apple will be releasing an updated MacBook Air very soon. Currently the MacBook Air is powered by a customized version of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor from the Merom-class. In order to conserve power it has been modified with a lower voltage process. According, to Phone News the current CPU in the MacBook Air will be swapped for the standard Penryn class Core 2 Duo. What this means is the CPU will dramatically increase from 2.0 GHz and potentially beyond. Of course, this comes as a price since power drain will increase as well. However according to the claims Apple will be offering a higher-capacity battery to address this issue. The current MacBook Air hasn’t quite lived up to Apple’s battery life claims. Also the claims state that the MacBook Air will require a 69W power adaptor to fully charge.
What type of hard drive should we expect to see in the new MacBook Air? The site states that 128 GB hard drive will likely be standard with an optional 160GB. Is a new MacBook Air imminent? If you follow Apple’s, history of its updates to the Mac lineup this shouldn’t be surprising. Mac computers usually receive an update at least twice yearly. The question is when? Many, including myself, speculate that we’ll be seeing one unveiled in the next few months, and I’m imagining we’ll see it released the same time as the much anticipated MacBook Pro.
Some of the features we’ve seen in the MacBook Air, like the multi-touch trackpad, are gradually starting to make its way into the Mac lineup. In fact we saw multi-touch technologyintroduced in the past refresh of the MacBook Pro. When the multi-touch technology was introduced in the iPhone, Steve Jobs stated that multi-touch would make its way into other Apple products.
