NeoOffice 2.2.4 Patch 4 is here; Performance improvements, bug fixes, and more
Recently, NeoOffice was updated to NeoOffice 2.2.4. I updated my version earlier today. What was addressed in this update? According to the release notes boast that there has been a significant improvement to the slide shows (up to 33%). I checked it out for myself did notice a noticeable improvement in speed. Some users were having issues where a file or other menus were being displayed wen upon launching NeoOffice with the “nodefault” option. This bug has been fixed. Also fixed was a crash that could happen at startup if the home folder was on a remote volume.
If you log onto the NeOffice website you can download NeoOffice 2.2.4 Patch-4. They have two versions available one for Mac PowerPc users and the other for Intel Macs. In order to download the update you must have the full installation of NeoOffice 2.2.4 or NeOffice 2.2.3 with NeoOffice Patch O. The website states that the NeoOffice 2.2.4 Patch-4 “Patch 0 and will not install on any version of NeoOffice 2.2.2. Patch-4 includes all fixes and additions of previous patches.”
NeoOffice offers a complete range of software applications, and it’s free. It’s a fork of the free/open source OpenOffice.org (which was originally developed for Solaris and Linux) suite that is ported to the Mac. In fact you’ll find many of the same features in NeoOffice including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation program, and a graphics program.

There are many Mac users who would prefer not to use Microsoft Office products, for whatever reason, on their Mac computers. However, many of them still need to send Microsoft documents to associates that do use Microsoft computers. Software applications, like NeoOffice gives them the opportunity to create and send documents using the correct file extension.
One of the questions people who are looking to make the switch to Mac computers is can they send and receive Microsoft Office documents. There are several options available to address this issue. I usually recommend Microsoft Office for Mac and NeoOffice. I’ve tried out both Microsoft for Mac and NeoOffice and I prefer the latter. The main reason I use NeoOffice is that it allows me to send Microsoft Office documents to associates without having to use Microsoft Office for Mac.
