NetNewsWire has been updated to NetNewsWire 3.1.7b4; fixed startup crash, improved Combined View, and much more
NetNewsWire, a popular RSS feed for Mac users, received an updated recently. When subscribers open up NetNewsWire they’ll be greeted with a message asking them whether they would like to update to NetNewsWire 3.1.7b4.
What can users expect with this update? According to the company this update fixed one particular cause of a startup crash. If you’re already a NetNewsWire user you might notice, after you upgrade that it sports a brand-new user interface completes with new toolbar icons. You’ll notice a few additional cosmetic enhancements such as feed “cover art” along with tabs with thumbnails and animations.
I’m a NetNewsWire user and updated to 3.1.7b4 this morning. I noticed a few changes immediately. An improved Combined View has been added in this update which utilizes multiple pages which is capable of displaying a long list of items.
Where can I find Combine View?
- From the menu click on View
- From the drop down menu click on Layout
- Select Combined View
I prefer Combined View since it gives the reader a chance to read a few paragraphs from the website instead of just featuring the title like Traditional View. Also, new to NetNewsWire is the HTML archive feature which allows users to save HRML files on disc. The great news is these files are compatible with any web browser. Desktop integration of Address Book, iC al, iPhoto, Growl, Twitterific, and many more have been included in this updated.
Tired of checking manually for an update to NetNewsWire? Now NetNewsWire will check for updates automatically, which means one less thing for you to remember to update. If you enjoy iTunes podcasts you can now automatically download podcasts and transfer them to iTunes.
NetNewsWire is a free desktop news aggregator. It was made for the Mac OS X. It first made an appearance publicly on July 12, 2002. NetNewsWire was one of the first RSS feeds to appear on any platform. RSS is a group of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blogs, news headlines, and podcasts. If you have websites that you visit frequently subscribing to an RSS feed is a quicker way to access all your favorite websites that have RSS from one location. I visit about 300 websites weekly, and subscribing to an RSS feed has greatly cut down on my web visits. RSS feeds like NetNewsWire make it possible for readers to keep up with their websites in an automated manner. The company behind NetNewsWire is NewsGator. They also are behind FeedDemon a popular RSS feed for Windows users.
If you have an iPhone or iPod touch and an account with NetNewsWire you are still able to access your feeds. You can log onto the App Store to download the NetNewsWire Application for the iPhone or iPod touch. The application was released on the first day that the App store opened.
