Blizzards rolls out Wrath of the Lich King cinematic trailer

August 26, 2008

blizzard-logo.gifBlizzard has done an excellent job looking out for the Mac gamers. There definitely not enough games available for the Mac. Mac users who like to get their gaming fix without resorting to Bootcamp, Parallels, or a Windows computer are able to get their game on (with their Mac) when playing games created by Blizzard. It’s true World of Warcraft, Diablo, or Stracraft are all Mac compatible.

Recently, Blizzard released the cinematic trailer for the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King. This is the second expansion for the extremely popular game WOW and sets place in the frozen country of the north viewing the battle scene on the video I was reminded of a battle scene from Lord of the Kings: Return of the King. A Nazgûl flying overhead with a with a sea of orcs on the ground. I’m mainly a FPS gamer but I found myself enjoying WOW. Although I mainly solo in game occasionally I do play with a few real life buddies and blog pals. When I do play I mainly play in the arena and battlegrounds since it gives me a healthy dose of player vs. player.

WOW has a huge fan base. The trailer has WOW fans buzzing and eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming expansion which is set to be released later this year. A lot of new features are being added to this upcoming expansion. I imagine Blizzard has to keep outdoing themselves to keep people paying the monthly subscription fee.

Currently in WOW, the level is capped at 70. It was originally 60 but the The Burning Crusade extended it to 70.) With the upcoming expansion Blizzard is raising the bar to level 80. Hero’s will be able to explore a completely new environment known as Northrend, which also happens to be the icy domain of the Lich King.

WOW gamers are buzzing about the new class that is being introduced in the upcoming expansion. WOW gamers will now have the ability to play a Death Knight. This is the first hero class added to WOW. Currently it is the only hero class being added to WOW. In addition to the new class players will be able to transform their characters look thanks to the new character customization option. Also being added is new hairstyles and dances. I definitely could care less about the hairstyles and dances but I’m happy to see the new talents that are being added to the classes.

Although I haven’t run into any major issues playing WOW on my 17″ MacBook Pro however if you are a Mac user who has run into problems I would suggest checking out the Blizzard’s Mac technical support forum. Blizzard employees and other users are very helpful when it comes to answering users issues.

If you’re a current player and would like to test out the beta version you can sign up here. Naturally, not everyone will be accepted and although beta testing opened last month, judging by the WOW forums, users are still receiving their beta invites. If you aren’t, one of the ones selected or beta testing doesn’t interested you still might be able to try out some of the new talents. Many have speculated that WOW will be releasing the WOW 3.0 patch so that all users will be able to try out the new abilities and modifications that are being given to the current classes and races.
