Will Wright, creator of Spore, to speak at a London Apple Store

Spore.jpgWith the release of the much anticipated game Spore around the corner Maxis, company behind Spore, has decided to whet players appetites by having Spore creator, Will Wright, stop in a London Apple store on September 3, 2008 to discuss the game.

Will Wright will be speaking at London’s Regent Street Apple Store. Pop in if you are in the area. Will Wright, the gaming professor, is no stranger to public speaking his lectures are usually sold out and frequented by gamers, reporters, designers, and many more. I’ve had the opportunity of attending one of his lectures and was thoroughly impressed. Will Wright is also the creator of the extremely popular game, The Sims.

Several Mac gamers have been waiting for this title for a while. Spore was initially announced in 2005. Mac gamers who are looking forward to this game don’t have long to wait, Spore will be hitting stores simultaneously for Mac and Windows users Europe will receive the game on September 5th and USA will get it two days later on September 7, 2008. Naturally some users questioned why Europe was receiving Spore first. Maxis’s Patrick Buechner said that Europe represented 60 per cent or more of its PC business. Buechner went on to say,

“Getting the launch right, getting the game working right here, getting those online features working in Europe… Europe is the priority for Spore,”

Of course, Mac gamers are excited that Spore will be hitting both platforms simultaneously; hopefully, this will set a delightful trend for other fabulous games that are ported to the Mac. Mac gamers, just like Windows gamers, would love to have the game upon release and not months, and sometimes years, later if we receive them at all.

What are the system requirements for Spore?

  • CPU: Intel Core Duo Processor
  • 1024MB RAM
  • Video card: ATI X1600/NVIDIA 7300 GT/Intel integrated graphics chip with 128 MB of Video RAM or Intel Integrated GMA X3100 (Intel GMA950 not supported)
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • At least 4 GB of hard drive space, with at least 1 GB additional space for creations.

Mac users, like Windows users, have the option to pre-order Spore by logging onto GameTree online. You’ll receive the download link on the estimated release date. Spore costs $49.95. Additional places where Spore can be pre-ordered are;

  1. Amazon
  2. WalMart
  3. Direct2Drive

For those who want to get a sampling of what Spore has to offer you can always check out the Spore Creator it gives users the chance to create their own ferocious or loveable creature.
