Let’s Rock Apple event will showcase new products like iPod Touch,
Apple is hosting an event called “Let’s Rock” on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008. Macheads are waiting with their usual bated breath to see what Steve Jobs and the folks at Apple have up their sleep for this event. We all hope it’s more exciting than the WWDC keynote and not just a platform to launch a new iPod line.
Why the concern that the event will be all about the iPod line and little else? Mainly due to the trademark silhouette of a dancing person on the Apple invitation to the event. To be sure, we can expect a longer iPod Nano (yawn), and perhaps a few price cuts on the iPod Touch line so they are more in tandem with new iPhone prices set earlier this summer. All that aside, this Machead is hoping for more.
Other rumors tell us that the Beatles will finally be included in the iTunes catalog. I’m not a Beatles acolyte like some, so every time this rumor surfaces it gets a double reaction from me. First, a hefty eye roll accompanied by “I’ll believe it when I see it” and second a huge “So what?”. Frankly, the Beatles covers available on iTunes by other bands and singers enthrall me more for their creative take on these icons.
What would rumors of the Beatles be without the accompanying rumor that iTunes will be getting an upgrade to version 8 (finally, two years later) plus a face lift and new features. I am not very excited about the rumored recommendation engine. I am excited about the other two parts of this rumor, however.
If iTunes jumps into the fray against MySpace’s upcoming music subscription service that will be entertaining to watch. Some Macheads will howl about Apple “selling out” even as others welcome having options for music purchases other than a la carte. It will finally get Apple into serious contention against Rhapsody and other subscription services as well. The interactive album idea is another solid one, if true. These would offer additional content in addition to the usual cover art and songs for purchasers.
Meanwhile, it probably won’t happen, but I’m hoping for newer, better MacBooks or some other big announcement, not just another iPod bedtime story. I’ll probably have to wait for that story though – Apple does like to draw out the suspense.
