Apple store is down; Updated iPods, iTunes 8.0, Mac computers? It’s about to rock
By Opal Tribble
Apple typically releases new products and refreshes their current line on Tuesday. Today users across the globe that tried to access the online Apple store were greeted with the typical “We’ll be back soon” message.
I checked Apple Canada, Mexico, Sweden, Japan, France, and the Australia website and I received the same message above. At times when Apple releases an update it doesn’t affect all its websites but when it does that is a signal that something major is about to happen.
What can we expect to see once the Apple store opens? It’s a given that we’ll be seeing a fourth generation iPod. If you’ve been following iPod news you most likely have seen the pictures of the iPod nano 4G? If the rumors are true, it appears that Apple will be focusing on a taller leaner design for its iPod nano. A shape many, including myself, prefers. I wasn’t found of the short squat design that was introduced in the third generation iPod nano and iPod touch.
Digg owner, Kevin Rose, was one of the first to write about an updated iPod on his personal blog. He also predicted that we would be seeing major changes to iTunes and it will be called iTunes 8.0. iTunes is the number one online retail music store in the US and although I’m happy with the application, I use it daily. I’m glad that it is getting some Apple love, and hopefully it will rock even more. With this massive update, I’m hoping the bug affecting some users (CDs in iTunes not mounting correctly) is finally fixed.
Many are still looking for a refresh for the Mac computers; MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro should all receive an update sometime this year. The only question is when? I’m a MacBook Pro user I’m one who’s looking for an update myself however I don’t think we’ll see that today. If the past two events are any indication we might see anoother event geared specifically for Mac computers. WWDC’08 showed an iPhone on its banner and the Let’s Rock event prominently displays an iPod. We don’t see any Macs anywhere. The rumor that won’t die still is floating around. You know the one, that we’ll be seeing a MacTablet.
Regardless of what we’ll be seeing we don’t have too much longer to wait. Apple’s Let’s Rock event officially kicked off at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. Since the Apple stores are down it would appear that at least some of the new products that Steve Jobs, and the other presenters talk about at this event will be available later today. Stay tuned, Blorge writer Leslie Poston will be writing about the event.
