Second time a charm Apple releases second version of iTunes 8 for Windows to fix blue screen of death

By Leslie Poston

Does Apple really have a cavalier attitude toward Windows users? Windows users are starting to think so. The most recent incident involved popular Apple software iTunes.

Windows users were complaining because Apple’s release of iTunes 8 for Windows Vista was causing the all-to-familiar blue screen of death to appear. Judging by how many software programs written for Windows do the same thing, you have to wonder at what point Windows users realize the problem may be their chosen platform, but I digress.

In this case, the problem really was caused by Apple iTunes 8 and a certain driver associated with it. Each time an iPod or iPhone was plugged in to the computer to synch, there was a pretty good chance the computer would freeze - leaving users string at the infamous Windows blue screen error message.

This isn’t the first time Windows users, and especially Windows Vista users, have had trouble using Apple software released for their platform. There was a similar problem with freezing when iTunes 7.7 was released earlier in the year. It seems to mainly effect Vista users (a lot of things seem to effect Vista computers).

In the case of this most recent trouble, it seems that a driver called the Apple Mobile Device Support may be part of he problem. As stated before, you will need to completely remove both iTunes 8 and this driver before attempting a reinstallation. when you go to grab a clean file to reinstall it make sure you are getting the latest version date for download. If so, windows users should be in the clear and avoid more freezes.
