MacBooks unboxed!

October 16, 2008

heelsWhat’s as inevitable as death and taxes? That people will fetishize freshly released Apple products in photographic and video montages, hundreds of them posted across the blogsphere and 2.0 webspace.

In this case, the products to be worshiped and fawned over are the MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air portables computers that Steve Jobs introduced on Tuesday. For those tens of thousands of buyers, a new MacBook is already a tangible physical reality.

A brand spanking new Apple-branded portable just isn’t in the cards for the majority of the rest of us. But, fret not, just because you don’t need or can’t afford a new Mac, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these products’ more esoteric qualities.

So, queue up the Barry White and press play ’cause a certain Joe Russell (via TUAW) has got you covered with this gallery of MacBook unboxing pics on Flickr.

Joe Russell MacBook unboxing FlikrJoe didn’t take it far enough? Well, the eager beavers at iFixit, having taken the unboxing maxim to its logical extreme by not only unboxing a new, unibody MacBook Pro, they’ve also disassembled it, displaying the engineering marvel’s internals to the public for the first time.

Still not satisfied? Prefer your fetishized Mac prøn to be presented in grainy 8mm video? Can’t help you there, but we do have this fine YouTube vid from jon4lakers—it’s not 8mm, but it’s still plenty grainy and dude uses a really big knife to open the box, which probably earns a few extra points for style.
