Breaking the mold of the Apple store, Cydia offers jail-broken iPhone users access to applications for their iPhone that may not meet Apple’s strict requirements for inclusion in its store. One of these applications is a new peer-to-peer (P2P) downloading app called MewSeek. MewSeek works on P2P SoulSeek.

Apple released the second build of Snow Leopard to developers this week. There are many more features and changes in this one, but the one that grabbed me was the change from Carbon to Cocoa for Apple’s Finder. Finder has been the last Carbon hold out until now.

Officials now believe the fake news story about Steve Jobs’ health which caused a brief slump in Apple’s share price was the work of an 18 year old prankster. It appears he or she didn’t capitalise on the scare through buying and selling stock.

Apple’s profits are up by 25% compared with last year despite slightly missing analyst expectations on revenues. The firm says economic problems shouldn’t cost it customers, but is being cautious about its forecasts for 2009.

In our recent article on Apple’s legal action against Psystar going to an out-of-court hearing, we raised the question of what this meant for legal action brought by Psystar against Apple. It turns out that situation, with Psystar accusing Apple of exploiting a monopoly, is still being hotly disputed.
