iPhone feature requests that will never happen

iPhone feature requests that will never happen The average user is not that smart.  Judging by some comments from various Web sites and feature requests for the iPhone this is clearly evident.  In a smaller capacity, this applies to the iPod Touch (at times).

Reasonable requests such as copy and past support, landscape view for emails and Flash support I can be 100 percent behind.  Techcrunch adds a few extras to the list such as hiding unwanted icons and “tether” mode (where it is used as a cellular modem) on a computer.  As much as we all want Flash support, it’s not going to happen (not soon and likely will never).

Perhaps I see just putting the icons you don’t want on one of the separate home screens.  Now they are out of the way and won’t bother you. See how that works?  Genius, I know.

Tether mode, I can see the use but since the iPhone already has jacked up prices on its plans, that may be even more expensive than just getting a dedicated USB cellular card.  It’s not likely to happen, so just forget about it.  The iPhone was designed to be a mobile device, period, end of story.  Why?  Because Steve Jobs said so, that’s why.

And there ends the more sane requests.  Someone in a comment went so far as to suggest that the iPhone/iPod Touch should have stereo bluetooth.  It does, or rather you can get any number of wireless bluetooth headphones for the iThings across all price ranges.  No, Apple won’t include it, so add it yourself and stop complaining about how it doesn’t have it.  If you can add it then it doesn’t really lack it, does it?  You’re just too cheap to buy the things to make it work.  Admit it.

MMS support, not in this generation.  A camera with zoom and video support.  Again, not going to happen in this generation of iPhones.  And just so we are all on the same page, 2x digital zoom on the 2MP camera would suck.  I’d rather have a small image than a slightly larger image that’s also blurred.  Someone needs to kick digital zoom to the curb and beat it with a bat.

More stable software.  It is stable, when used properly.  Most of the time it is in standby and you wake it up and the applications get slower and slower and slower.  At this point, fully power off the phone, wait for it to shutdown and then turn it back on.  You should see everything operating normally now.

You say it is stable then go on to say how it becomes progressively unstable, requiring a reboot. In what twisted world is that ’stable’?

It is so easy to say things that wont happen this gen when it is hardware. Obviously the hardware is already in the hands of the customers. as for software you can’t say what is coming. Isn’t there an IPOD SDK for public use?

Looks like you were right on the money there ;)
