iTunes Gift Card trouble? Here’s a solution…

December 27, 2008

Suffering from card scratch fever (CSF)? That is, you got an iTunes Gift Card for Christmas and then rubbed the scratch-off area a bit too hard and now you can’t read the code on the your iTunes Gift Card? And, how about OS X 10.5.6, experiencing grief on start up? We’ve got a work around for that, too.

That dodgy iTunes Gift Card? Don’t throw it away. I repeat—do not throw it away. There’s is a work (potential) around.

To begin the redemption process, click the “Redeem” link in the Quick Links box on the right side of the iTunes landing page (or just click here). Enter as much of the code that you have and, after several tries, iTunes will present a “Get Help” link just below the Redeem Code box.

Fix the OS X 10.5.6 blue screen crash

After using Software Update to apply OS X 10.5.6 Update, you may get a blue screen crash at startup. If so, a likely fix is to restart with a Safe Boot (by holding down the Shift key down at startup). A new feature in Mac OS X 10.5.6, Safe Boot results in the deletion of the “dynamic loader shared cache” in the /var/db/dyld directory. A corrupt cache is one of the causes of the blue screen crash issue after updating to OS X 10.5.6. Restarting after a Safe Boot will create a fresh copy of the deleted cache, resulting in (knock on wood) smooth, crash-free start up—Macworld

After clicking through to Get Help, according to Matt O’Hern of Marketing Shift (a self-confessed CSF sufferer), you will be presented with an additional line where you’ll be prompted to enter a second number string. Specifically, the one indicated to the right.

That said, O’Hern was able to validate his card and redeem the full $25 face value.

I’m always a sucker for a happy ending…
