Facebook for iPhone 2.1: Fixes nagging issues [for some]
Just when I was starting to love the crashing and overly long sync times, they come along and fix things. Well, let me rephrase that—most of the fixes Facebook says they’ve made work for me. Others haven’t been quite so lucky.
Although Facebook for iPhone 2.0 (iTunes Store) was a huge, huge improvement over earlier versions, it didn’t arrive without issues of its own—crashing, time stamp issues, missing features, etc.
Still, the good people at Facebook haven’t sat on their laurels, not that they have many, and have gotten together a maintenance release. Thereupon, Facebook for iPhone 2.2 is said to be offering the following:
✏ Fewer crashes
✏ Timestamps are correct for time zones
✏ No longer causes sync to take a long time
✏ Scrolls to the newest message in an Inbox thread
✏ Loads long Inbox threads faster
✏ Friend duplicates will no longer appear
✏ Fixes bug that caused pages to go blank
Does it work?
So far, I’ve noticed that v2.1 appears to be a little snappier and syncing (tried it twice to be sure) also appears to be faster. However, I haven’t used this latest iteration long enough to know whether or its actually more stable (ie not that v2.0 caused me to vituperate with much frequency).
That said, although Facebook says the time stamp issue has been fixed, several iTunes Store reviewers say otherwise. On my iPod touch, time stamping appears to be inconsistent across the various sections of Facebook.
Lastly, whereas one review poster complains that Facebook for iPhone v2.1 completely breaks the app, another poster reports that deleting and then re-installing not only solves the crash-on-start issue, but also allows him to enjoy the fixes outlined above.
Of course Facebook for iPhone 2.1 requires that your iPod touch or iPhone be running v2.2 of Apple’s mobile operating system.

Definitely an improvement – sync time has gone from 35 minutes to less than 2! Time stamp worked correctly the first time I used the new facebook but then reverted back to the old familiar 8hours behind nonsense!

Absolute rubbish for me.
Times have gone from +8 hours to +12 hours.
Chat doesn’t work and always crashes.
Sort it out!!
