‘It’s a done deal:’ Apple ditching Macworld for CES in 2010
Once upon a time the Cupertino, California based company was best known for its iconic line of Macintosh computers. With the addition of new category defining products—the iPod, iTunes and iPhone—iconic Apple itself is perhaps in need of a newer, bigger venue to share its vision.
Cult of Mac, the blog vehicle of Inside Steve’s Brain author Leander Kahney, reports that Apple that will indeed exhibit at Computer Electonics Show (CES) 2010.
“Look outside the window in any major metropolitan area: not only will you be assaulted with billboards hocking Apple goods, but you’ll see that seven out of ten people wearing headphones are rocking out with an iPod. Apple has managed to commandeer our attention and ingrain itself into our subconscious in a way perhaps no other company has. There is no escape; so what’s one more [Ed: Or, for that matter, one less] expo?”—PCWorld

An unnamed source (very large grain of salt please), citing “friends who work at Apple,” states unequivocally that the mothership will “go large” at next year’s event in Las Vegas. Moreover, the source says that this isn’t mere speculation and that “It’s a done deal” already.
Thereupon, it has to be said that moving from San Francisco—a world class city with great transportation, restaurants, cultural attractions and actual weather—to Las Vegas (a city built in the middle of a desert by gangsters to avoid legal entanglements over a gambling den) would be an absolute loss for fans of the Macintosh. However, if Apple CEO Steve Jobs could be persuaded to give the keynote address, obviating any chance that Steve Balmer would take the stage, would be an absolute gain for humanity as a whole.
Pain for “the rest of us” versus betterment of mankind. That’s a tough call to make…
What’s your take?
