CES 2010 to feature ‘Apple-related area’

January 12, 2009

When IDG said it was going ahead with Macworld 2010, many joked that the tradeshow and publishing giant had little choice because it had already booked San Francisco’s Moscone Hall. However, with CES putting out the welcome mat for “Apple-related CE manufacturers,” vendors at least have a choice where they will greet the faithful next year.

Last week, quoting an unnamed source, Blorge reported that Apple would will “go large” at next year’s event in Las Vegas. Moreover, the source said that this isn’t mere speculation and that “It’s a done deal” already.

Today, comes a write up from News.com that CES 2010 will feature—back in my day they called them “pavilions”—a “dedicated a special area at the 2010 CES to Apple-related CE manufacturers.”

“We decided to create this special area based on discussions we’ve had with companies regarding 2010 show participation. We are pleased with the feedback we’ve received regarding this space”—said Jason Oxman of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the organization that puts on the giant tradeshow.

Of course, this news has only served to stoke speculation that Apple has indeed dumped Macworld for the bright lights and huge crowds of Las Vegas, despite the fact that the company has publicly stated that tradeshows are no longer part of its marketing plans.

For his part, aside from mentioning that the mothership is a longstanding member of CEA, Oxman referred any questions about Apple at CES to the Mac maker and, of course, no one at 1 Infinite Loop was in the mood to discount or confirm any such rumors.

As I’ve said previously, although taking Apple’s mid-Winter tradeshow mojo from San Francisco on the road to soulless (since the Star Trek Experience closed) Las Vegas is an inconsolable loss for the faithful. Yet, Steve Jobs taking the that Sin City stage and delivering the keynote address instead of Steve “Monkey Boy” Balmer would be a benefit to all mankind.

Sometimes, the needs of many do indeed outweigh the needs of the few…

So it will be like Best Buy. Appears it’s a bit of a shock that Apple is a company who wants to get as much of your money as possible, and the more they expand the customer base the harder it is to hide the sausage making details.
Must be like finding out about Santa, eh?
