Mac software: iLife ’09 Hardware Up-to-Date Program
You just gotta have a new Mac right now and you are seriously cheesed that it doesn’t include iLife ’09? Well, Apple has kind of, sort of got your back and it won’t break the bank to hold them to it.
If you purchased a qualifying new Mac computer or, and this is an interesting addition to the program, Apple Certified Refurbished computer on or after January 6 of this year and would like to upgrade to iLife ’09, Apple has a proposition for you—the iLife ’09 Hardware Up-to-Date Program.
You can purchase a Single-User Upgrade Kit for each qualifying product, for $9.95; or (2) purchase fewer Single-User Upgrade Kits and request the Right to Copy for the remaining qualifying products (That has got me wondering exactly how one earns the “right to copy”?).
What others are saying about iLife ’09
“Overall, we think the expanded feature list for each program and usability tweaks make this updated suite worth looking into if you have interest in this project- and hobbyist-based suite”—News.com
“Both iPhoto and iWeb now include simple one-click-to-share buttons for publishing to Facebook and, in the case of iPhoto, Flickr.com, as well … the company is feeling the social network love”—Wired
Yes, there are bullet points o’ plenty in the terms and conditions, so be sure to check them out before taking the plunge. And, although I only checked the UK and Japanese websites, I’m pretty confident in saying this program is available worldwide.
Also, just as an aside, assuming you wanted to, but the usually $499 refurbished 1.83GHz Mac mini is eligible under this program, making it easily the lowest cost option available for purchasing both a Mac and the iLife ’09 upgrade.
It is perhaps also worth mentioning that Apple has also extended its free printer with Mac purchase to include refurbished product, too. So, total door-to-door damage on a “new” mini, iLife ’09 and a new printer will be $499 plus tax—Food for thought.
iLife ’09 is expected to ship later this month.
