iTunes Plus upgrade overcharge? Find out if you paid too much…
When Apple announced at Macworld 2009 that the iTunes Store would go 100 percent DRM free with 256K mp4 (vs 128K mp4) encoding, there was much rejoicing. Shouts of joy could also be heard after the Cupertino, CA-based company, and the No 1 music retailer in the US, began allowing a la carte iTunes Plus upgrades.
Chris Breen (via Macworld UK) reports that some of the people upgrading legacy FairPlay DRM tracks to iTunes Plus have been overcharged. Specifically, although Apple officially prices iTunes Plus upgrades at 30 cents per track and $3 per album (individual title prices do vary), customers with shopping cart enabled, including Breen, have been billed full track (99 cents) and album prices ($9.99).
And that’s a key factor right there—”with the shopping cart enabled.” If you have not used the shopping cart, then you are going to be OK.
If you have used the shopping cart or if you are not sure whether you have or not, you will need to check your iTunes “Purchase History” against actual charges on your credit card.

To view your history, open iTunes, log into your account (up right corner of iTunes, see image to the right) and then click Purchase History, which lists the items you have bought and how you much you paid by the receipt date (Apple issues iTunes receipts about once a week).
Now, you will need to compare what iTunes says it charged with the charges on your credit bill.
Find an overcharge? Then you will need to click the “Report a Problem” button at the bottom of the iTunes Purchase History page, which will spawn a Web page where you can tell Apple about the issue.
As with all credit card billing issues, making corrections can often take days or even weeks. However, if Mr Breen’s experience is anything to go by, then Apple should be able to resolve the issue in under a week and will also provide you an iTunes Store credit good for five songs to compensate you for your trouble.
