Taiwanese iPhone OEM announces its good fortune
Are the times tough right now? That of course depends on who you ask. And if one lucky maker of cellphone parts is to believed, things just might be looking up.
Quoting company chairman Gou Tai-chiang, CENS reports that Cheng Uei Precision Industry, aka Foxlink, has landed a deal to supply parts for Apple’s iPhone, though no details of the size of the order or the components included are mentioned.
Not just big…
According to CENS writer Cheng Uei, “To enhance production efficiency, Apple has decided to switch more contract orders for iPhone’s parts to Taiwanese makers from Japanese ones this year. In fact, over the past few months, the depreciation of the New Taiwan dollar has helped to boost competitiveness of Taiwanese OEMs in the race for contract orders from international large-size brands.” (See also: Engrish.com)
Given how leaky Taiwan’s OEMs are, this is perhaps the first of many reports about Apple’s Asian procurement efforts for the anticipated next-gen iPhone.
There is also a quip that Cheng Uei is also making parts for the iMac. Considering the company’s handset focussed products (think bits and bobs), I wonder if their part of the puzzle is a super interesting bit that will blow us all away or just a connector?
And, that’s the problem with Apple—ya just never know what’s coming…
What’s your take?
