No Flash for iPhone [maybe]
The nightmare—for Adobe at least—that is Flash for the iPhone just took another bizarre turn for the worse as the graphics software giant now seems to be back peddling on statements made last month indicating progress was being made, hand in hand with Apple.
Back on the last day of January, Blorge quoted Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen as saying, “It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating. The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver.”
Today, according to this Down Jones (via CNN) write up, we are hearing a slight change in wording and huge difference in meaning.
“We think Flash availability on the iPhone benefits the millions of joint Apple and Adobe customers, and we want to work with Apple to bring these capabilities to the device,” an Adobe spokeswoman said. “Adobe is still committed to bringing Flash Player to the iPhone.”
The statement came in response to questions about an updated version of Flash Lite, released on Monday, which features high definition video playback, but still doesn’t run on the iPhone.
Sounds like Adobe keeps wishing Flash for iPhone into existence and Apple adds hurt to humiliation to Narayen et al by doing nothing at all. Truly, the worst insult anyone can pay another is to ignore them…
What’s your take?

Hi, there’s no news in that report from Ben Charny.
Adobe’s goal is pretty simple — we want to make it easy to publish to any and all digital screens.
This quote pretty much sums it up:
“‘We would love to see [Flash] on the iPhone, too,’ said Anup Murarka, director of Technology Strategy and Partner Development for Adobe. ‘But it’s Apple’s decision on when and how they support any new technology. So we will continue to work on it.’”

I haven’t seen any recent statements from Apple, and so have no news on that front, sorry.
