Jobs, Johnson, key executives gain security clearances
Suiting up for special operations against America’s enemies abroad? Going deep under cover to right our economic ship? Although the notion of Steve Jobs and a security clearance conjures up all sorts of interesting notions, it’s overwhelmingly likely something mundane—profit for example—has motivated Team Apple to get cozier with the government.
InformationWeek reports that Apple CEO Steve Jobs, VP of government sales Ron Police and other top Apple execs have sought out and received security clearances from the federal government. The move comes in the same timeframe that the US Army has finished and released its golden master disc image of Mac OS X 10.5, which will be the basis for a “significant” Mac rollout on the desktop.
What exactly “significant” means is perhaps anyone’s guess. Still, although OS X has been approved for federal use since 2003, Apple has paid little attention to the government sector and what adoption there has been has been driven by individual users and chief information officers that recognize the inherent advantages of the consumerization of information technology.
Does this mean the end of Microsoft Windows dominance of government? Meh, I doubt even the biggest fan boy on the planet is so gay for the Mac as to believe that.
Nevertheless, it’s hard to imagine that the drab world of public service won’t be just a little brighter with a few more Macs around…
What’s your take?
